Refuge in Ink is drafted!

I really hope I get to keep the title… The book is with my agent now, and will be headed to my publisher before too long, and yes, I’m nervous about it. I’ve never written anything this complex, and I’m really proud of it.

I tend to write books that are puzzles. Everything has to fit together, and this one is more puzzle-like than ever. It’s a book about a magic book. It’s a book about a woman coping with the early covid times… by reading the magic book, of course without realizing it’s magic. Refuge in Ink is a love letter to all the books and movies and TV shows we’ve ever escaped into. It’s about the way we connect with each other by sharing nerdy things.

It also got me doing research. Just so much research. Yes, on the internet to some degree, which was a whole adventure in trying to dig down to primary sources. Also, though, I couldn’t have done this without all the marvelous people who supported and advised me on their areas of expertise. Acknowledgments for this book are going to be a whole thing.
